Depression Self-Help

I spent a lot of my life being depressed - and didn't know it! Even though I read voraciously and took plenty of Psychology courses! How could I have missed it? It could be that I'm dense - and while I'm not discounting that, it seems highly likely that I just got used to thinking (and feeling) that life was dull and my part in it pretty hopeless.

Sad and colorless was the way the world looked. I didn't realize that life wasn't that way for everyone.

Until one day I sat on a hammock reading Kathy Cronkite's book, On the Edge of Darkness, with tears rolling down my face because Kathy was describing my feelings and experiences - I felt like she was calling me by name (maybe a nickname I didn't know I had?).

I don't even know why I picked her book up - maybe it was because I love people's life stories - maybe it was the cover. Doesn't matter - I'm indebted because she helped me learn that there were other ways to view life!

We're building a resources (and articles) list here on Square-Peg-People to give back - to offer ideas, inspiration, hope (like Kathy did for me) for folks dealing with depression.
